Objectives
- Develop and improve linguistic, pragmatic and sociolinguistic competences;
- Identify and apply cultural and social rules in different communicative situations;
- Identify important aspects of the Portuguese Culture;
- Develop one’s a capacity of interacting culturally with others.
Candidates
17 years old or older citizens whose mother tongue is not Portuguese and who have completed the Secondary School successfully. Students must also be acquainted with the Latin alphabet.
Levels
- Begginers – Level A1
- Elementary - level A2
- Intermediate - Level B1
- Upper-Intermediate - Level B2
- Advanced - Level C1
- Proficiency - Level C2
Candidates for enrolment are required to do a placement test and are then classified in their appropriate level.
Course Modules
The course is divided in modules:
- Begginers and Elementary - Levels A1+A2
LíngPortuguese Language (22h), Language Laboratory (18h), Speaking (16h) and Writing (16h).ua Portuguesa (22h), Laboratório de Língua (18h), Conversação (16h) e Composição (16h).
- Intermediate - Levels B1+B2
Literature and Portuguese Language (16h) and Portuguese Culture (16h).
- Advanced - Levels C1+C2
Portuguese Language (22h), Portuguese Laboratory (18h);
Literature and Portuguese Language (16h) and Portuguese Culture (16h).
Duration
The courses will have 80 hours, divided in modules with four days per week tuition, 2 hours each. Students are excluded if they miss more than 1/3 of the total number of hours on each course.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with 3 different class hours:-
- 7:30 - 9:30
- 10:00 - 12:00
- 18:00 - 20:00

Lessons
Besides group lessons (22 students per class) there can be individual lessons (one or two students per class).

Teachers
The teachers are Portuguese with qualifications in Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language.

Placement test
On the first class, students will be required to sit for a placement test that will help grade them on their appropriate level.

Along the course
Students will be required to engage regularly in practical small scale activities such as worksheets and tests as well as tasks to apply their language competence. They will also be asked to evaluate themselves and their peers.

Final evaluation
At the end of each course, students will do a Written and Oral exam and the final evaluation will be as follows:FAIR: 10 a 13 marks;
GOOD: 14 a 17 marks;
VERY GOOD: 18 a 20 marks.
Certificate
At the end of the course, Students who have attended the lessons regularly and have completed successfully the proposed tasks will obtain a Certificate.

Enrolment
Enrolment is done at the school office and candidates will be asked to fill in a form. Mozambican citizens must give a copy of their Identity Card whereas Citizens from other countries must give a copy of their passport or DIRE (resident card) document.

All courses will only open with a minimum of 3 students.

Resources and Activities
Throughout the course, students will be provided with supporting materials (texts, documents).
Reading materials and bibliography can be acquired in the school library or at local bookshops.
Other supporting materials can also be found in the school portal “Moodle”.

Language Laboratory
The EPM-CELP school Language Lab offers the conditions to develop students’oral and listening competences. Here students can watch films and documentaries, listen to music and radio programmes, work with specific software, among others.

Cultural activities
Cultural activities aim at helping students widen their Portuguese linguistic and cultural horizons. Thus, the EPM-CELP school organizes cultural and entertainment gatherings where Portuguese is the language of communication.
